Politics Advance Information and How to Get a High Grade
My take on the politics guidance and information about my weekly webinars
Edexcel and AQA have issued their advance information guidance on Summer 2022 exams.
In this newsletter, I want to briefly go through some of the take home points from the Edexcel document. I shall try to do the same for AQA a little later on.
If you want to sign up to my weekly Edexcel UK and Global webinars, you can click here - Limited spaces and more information below.
My reflections:
The advance guidance shows that there are some substantial topics that will NOT be covered particularly at Component 1 and 2.
In Component 1 - key topics missed out will include, direct and representative democracy, referendums, party funding, case studies of three elections and of course the whole of liberalism in political ideas. I think this is substantial and will make revision far more streamlined.
In Component 2 - key topics missed out include past reforms to the constitution, functions of parliament, the cabinet, the EU and sovereignty. I think this is less substantial but will still help revision.
In Component 3 global - key topics missed out include most of power and developments except for different systems of government, the UN and Nato, the anarchical society theory, and how theory applies to the other 5 areas
In component 3 USA - key topics missed out include federalism, debates over the US presidency (eg imperial presidency), Supreme Court appointments, and some aspects of comparative approaches
It’s clear that more has been omitted from C1 and C2 than from C3.
I would say that for many of the papers we can predict the types of questions that can come up, but within some topics more than others.
My advice is that you start straight away to work through possible questions so you are prepared for your exams.
I am going to be preparing a question bank from which you can revise soon.
To help students, I shall restart my very popular and affordable weekly webinars. Each session costs £5 and I will aim to do the following:
I have narrowed down the possible questions that can be asked in the exam based on the guidance and each week we are going to work on planning the questions in full. Together with advice on how to reach a level 5 in AO1 knowledge, A02 Analysis and A03 Evaluation.
I shall host Edexcel UK and Global webinars - but hope also to do political ideas at a later date.
We shall also practice source questions.
Students can kick start their revision by taking these practical plans and translating them into writing full essays.
I believe these sessions will cover at least 80% of the content in the exam papers - if students heed my advice over the coming weeks then they can aim to achieve an A/A* in the final exam.
The cost of the sessions will be £5 per week (paid monthly - £20 for 4 sessions).
After the session you will receive the plan we work on, powerpoints of content that will help you write your essays and any other practical resources. Also post session help can also be provided in addition to the webinar.
I hope to make this session weekly until May - so thats 12 sessions.
There are a limited number of spaces so book soon to guarantee your space.
Each session will last 1 hour to 1.30 hours. With plenty of time of questions.UK starts Tuesday 22nd February
Global starts Thursday 24th February
